Mongolia 2008 – Arrival at expedition base camp

Hellloooooo

We left Oasis and loaded up into
our vans, 3 in total, and started on our 3 day, cross country journey to Hatgal.
The first couple of kilometres were on tarmac road, but the other 798 were off
road- an interesting experience for everyone!

We all arrived at Hatgal slightly
bruised and bumped but proceeded to set up base camp. The weather unfortunately
took a turn for the worse and we had good 24 hours of solid rainfall. The
weather has now brightened up along with everyone’s spirits.

We have had a good couple of
meals the past few days including both traditional Mongolian food and good old
tins of baked beans! This morning we watched one of the wranglers kill a sheep
(called chops!) to provide us with our food for the next few days. There were
lots of different reactions to this but I think everyone learnt from it and are
grateful for the lamb chops we will now be eating!! : )

The plan now is to set off in our
groups and start the rota of the 3 activities- horse riding, canoeing and
hiking. After looking at the weather forecast (sun!!) everyone is really
looking forward to starting this part of the expedition.

Hope everyone is well at home and
you aren’t having too much fun without us, will blog when it is next convenient.

From everyone xxx
