Mongolia 2008 – First Training Weekend

Training weekend – Kettlewell Youth Hostel, Friday 9th to Sunday 11th November 2007
Further details of the first training weekend will
be available soon, but I need confirmations from those of you that are
definately attending so we can book places…please email me back by
20th October, otherwise I will assume you are not available. The cost
for U18 is £11.50 per night. The cost of the food for this weekend will
be met by the expedition budget but you will be cooking it! You will
need to bring any snacks, special treats for leaders etc. but the main
meals we will provide. You will need to bring clothing and boots for
hill walking, together with normal personal kit.

Initial itinerary:
Arrive at Kettlewell for about 7pm Friday – share some of the research projects with the team and eat!

Saturday
morning – do a session about expectations of each other after
breakfast. What can we as a leader team expect from you as members, and
what can you as members expect from the leader team. We will also do a
session on personal equipment to recap and clarify for the expedition…

Saturday
afternoon – horse trek from a local stable – cost is £12 for the hour
trek. This is to get you used to horses if you have not been on one,
and to share experience if you have with others in the team.

Saturday evening – fundraising, some fun team games and share further research projects.

Sunday
– personal equipment for the expedition, hill walk in the area planned
by the team, then back to the hostel for a question and answer session.
Depart by 4pm from Kettlewell.

Hi to all,

The date for the first training weekend has been set at 10th and 11th of November.
The usual format for these: Arrive for about 7pm on the Friday, depart by 4pm Sunday. We will endeavour to let you know the details of them well in advance, but please be patient! The cost of the venue and food is an extra to the expedition budget, but we always try to keep this to a minimum by using campsites, bunkhouses and self cater. More detail about this with each training weekend information. The cost of this is around £15 for the weekend each.

The first weekend we are currently looking into running from near Kilnsey and to include some horse trekking, hiking, general expedition information on personal kit, and of course sharing our own research projects. We will also do a discussion session about expectations of each other. This will help us understand what you expect from the leader team and what we expect from you as the member team.

If it is possible, we would encourage you to share cars, and the leaders may be able to pick you up, by arrangement, if needed.

We have also offered the position of Assistant Leader to Wendy Gray. THe Art and Design teacher from Skipton Girls High School and we are sure Wendy will be a valuable addition to the leader team, bringning a wide variety of skills in both D of E group work and her chosen career skills.

See you all soon, Andie and Paul.
